Wellness Blood Tests
Blood tests are a simple and quick way to check for underlying health problems, or monitor existing conditions. Whether you are concerned about your health, managing an existing condition or just curious, our blood tests are an affordable and easy way to start taking charge of your own health.
How it works:
Our qualified phlebotomist will take your blood in one of our comfortable consultation rooms at a time that is convenient for you.
The sample will be sent off to the lab the same day for processing to ensure a fast turn-around time.
A doctor will analyse your results and communicate them with one of our pharmacists, who will then go through them with you in detail, answer any questions and advise on any further treatment / monitoring if needed.
*It is important to note that blood tests alone are not a substitute for seeing a doctor if you are concerned about your health. You should not make a diagnosis or start any treatment without a consultation with a doctor or suitably trained healthcare professional.
Blood tests we offer
-
This profile is a comprehensive check of your liver & kidney function, muscle & bone health, gout, iron levels, diabetes (HbA1c), full cholesterol profile and full blood count (red cells, white cells and platelets).
This detailed profile provides an excellent baseline health check. It helps you proactively manage your health and identify/ monitor many underlying or pre-existing conditions throughout your body.
We also offer a General Health Profile which includes all of the above without the full blood count and a Wellness profile that also includes thyroid hormones.
-
High cholesterol levels can cause your arteries to become blocked - leading to heart disease or stroke. Measuring and monitoring cholesterol can help you to make the positive lifestyle and dietary changes needed to improve your chances of a long and healthy life. This test measures 7 biomarkers including: Total cholesterol, High Density Lipoproteins (HDL), Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL), Total cholesterol: HDL ratio, Triglycerides, HDL percentage.
-
Anaemia is a shortage of red blood cells and/or haemoglobin in your blood. It is a common cause of tiredness as it leads to less oxygen being carried round your body. It can also lead to lack of energy, feeling faint, breathlessness and occasionally to irregular heartbeats.
This test will give you information on several common causes of anaemia. It includes tests for iron levels including ferritin, a full blood count, vitamin B12 and folate (vitamin B9) levels.
-
This profile checks the function of your thyroid gland. Thyroid disorders are common but often remain undiagnosed. The test checks your levels of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) and Free T4 (FT4).
These tests are mainly used to see whether or not you have an underactive thyroid gland (Hypothyroidism) or an overactive one (Hyperthyroidism) which can lead to tiredness, mood problems and weight issues.
-
Iron is an essential component of the body which makes up red blood cells to transport oxygen all around the body.
Low iron can cause anaemia, a common issue causing a list of problems starting with fatigue, weakness and coldness which can then progress to more serious conditions. The test checks if you are deficient in iron and how well the body can absorb iron. The test measures 5 biomarkers including: Iron, Total Iron Binding Concentration, Unsaturated Iron Binding Concentration, Ferritin, Transferrin Saturation.
-
This profile checks your Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 and Folate levels. These vitamins are all essential for your health and wellbeing.
Vitamin B12 is particularly important for those on a plant-based diet. Low levels of Vitamin B12 and Folate can have very severe effects on blood and overall health.
Vitamin D is also very important for anyone living in the UK. Up to a quarter of the population is low in Vitamin D at the end of winter. Low levels can cause a long list of health problems including fatigue, bone & muscle pain, depression and more.
We can test B12 or Vitamin D separately as a single test if preferred.
-
This test includes checks that have been shown to be important indicators of risks to your heart's health. It Includes a full cholesterol profile (Total cholesterol, High Density Lipoproteins (HDL), Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL), Total cholesterol: HDL ratio, Triglycerides, HDL percentage) and a test for inflammation (High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein) which can predict the risk of a heart attack.
It also includes a test for diabetes (HbA1c (Glycosylated Haemoglobin), which shows you how well your body controls your blood sugar.
-
This test is designed to discover clues in your blood as to why you may be feeling unusually tired or fatigued. It will give you information on several common things that doctors look for in blood tests that may contribute tribute to tiredness. It includes a full blood count and tests for vitamin D, inflammation, iron levels including ferritin and thyroid function tests.
-

This test checks your levels of HbA1c. This biomarker is used to confirm whether you have (or are at risk of developing) diabetes. It is a potentially life-saving test and it is quite common for people to have diabetes and not know about it. Unmanaged or undiagnosed diabetes is one of the leading causes of mortality. For anyone who already knows they have diabetes, regular HbA1c checks are essential to monitor progress.
Allergy Testing
This test checks 295 allergen sources (except drug allergens, such as penicillin) and allows you to fully understand your allergies to help you to reduce the impact of allergies on your life.
Ear wax removal
-
Ear wax, also known as cerumen is produced in the ear canal (the canal between your outer ear and ear drum). It has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties and traps dirt in order to protect the eardrum.
-
A build-up of earwax can be due to:
naturally producing a lot of earwax
narrow or hairy ear canals
inflammation of the ear canal
being elderly - wax hardens with age
frequently inserting objects such as cotton buds, ear plugs or hearing aids into your ear canal.
-
If your ears are producing normal amounts of earwax, your ears should self clean and you shouldn't need to remove earwax.
However, an excess or a build-up of earwax can lead to impaction of the ear canal if not removed. Impacted ear wax can cause a range of symptoms, either in one or both of your ears, including:
Dizziness
Tinnitus (ringing in the ear)
Earache
Trouble hearing
Itchiness
You shouldn’t try to remove earwax using a cotton bud or inserting other objects. This can worsen the impaction by pushing wax further down the canal and you could risk damaging your eardrum.
-
We offer a safe technique to remove ear wax called microsuction. Our trained professionals will look down the ear canal using an otoscope and use a small device to suck out the wax from your ear.
If you’re concerned about your earwax and are looking for some advice on how to remove it, give us a call on 01395 911733 to book an appointment or chat with our team.
